Ashta Pashu Bandana

ASTA PASHA
There are different types of bandana or bondages. We can roughly group them into three parts:
1.Atma Bandana or bondage of the soul, where the soul is bonded to its karmas (dridhas), and is trapped by the mind and caged into this body. The whole philosophy of Bhagavad Gita and Asta Bandana talks about that. Also, Upanishads are very illustrative of this bandana
2.Manas bandana or bondage of the mind with desires, or trapped by Hrid or Surya Hrid Chakra
3.Deha Bandana, or bondage of the body, where body is bound by hunger, anna or food, sleep etc.
These three types of bandana are studied in different points. Atma bandana is studied from the placement of Atmakaraka in both Rasi and Navamsa charts. Manas bandana is studied from the position of the Moon, and 7th bhava of desires in particular. Deha bandana is studied from various points, yet the 6th bhava of the horoscope ruling character and weakness plays an important role. That is why the 12th bhava of fasting (opposite) shows the best method to control a body and its urges.
Apart from Atma bandana where detailed knowledge of Atmakaraka is required, we can see the manas bandana by position of Shukra. It is shukra which rules sensory experience and bhoga, attachment, and manas or mind (Chandra) is therefore, exalted in Shukra sign, while Surya or Atma is neecha in another Shukra sign. Therefore, we shall study Shukra to understand the bondage of the mind to this world of sensory desires. It is no wonder that tradition teaches that when all planets (with a body, sapta or 7 grahas) are found in 5 rasis in a horoscope, a Pasha Yoga is formed, where Shukra becomes the sankya or root graha, controlling the creation or prakriti. Therefore, Shukra has been rightly associated with Pasha or Bondage Yoga. Pasha comes also from the root Pashu or animal, showing animalistic side of us or human beings, symbolizing lower or animal instincts. Therefore we study Asta Bandana related to Shukra in the following manner:
1.Shukra conjoined any other graha, causes 8 types of conjunctions or 8 type of bondages (mental)
2.If Shukra is alone study its placement in a sign. Depending on the lord of the sign, decide the bondage
3.Normally we study Shukra conjunctions for many other effects, including asta vivaha or types of marriages, or Asta Laksmi or the 8 type of blessing, so this is just a segment of Shukra conjunctions in a chart.
Shukra conjunctions or Asta Bandana
1.Shukra yuti Mangal, Ghrina, or anger, hatred, aversion and disgust. This will become the major weakness or bondage in the person, and you have to carefully study Mangal to understand the root of bondage. In tradition this is variation of Rudra Yoga, where such conjunction will destroy the Shukra (if alone), or any other conjoined graha. The area of tears (Rudra) will be shown by Mangal and its bhavas. Study the chart of B.V.Raman to understand how 4th lord Shukra conjoined Mangal and Budha, killed his mother in the very early childhood.
2.Shukra yuti Chandra- Lajja, or shame. Hiding own weakness, emotions to preserve self respect and protect emotions and own weakness, faults, becomes the bondage. In this conjunction, Chandra becomes strong because of the Shukra role to exalt it. Shukra is known as uchchnatha of Chandra, and gives the power and benefit to Chandra. This is a combination which can give huge wealth and enjoyments in life, but also bondage due to inability to overcome your own weakness. This combination can give blessing of Durga and is known as Anapurna yoga in its other variations.
3.Shukra yuti Shani, Bhaya or fear, the fear of death, poverty, disease or loss of dear ones. In this combination Shani benefits because the Shukra becomes its uchchnatha. However, Shukra energy is spoilt. The planets of love and grief cause a lot of suffering when they come together. There is an inability to overcome death and loss of dear ones. Shani carries energy of Makara rasi, death and suffering.
4.Shukra yuti Rahu, Shankaa, a lot of doubts, projecting false movies in the brain, fears and insecurities are seen in emotional life, which can take a person to selfish ways of sense gratification. The relationships and marriage can be permanently lost, and the cause of great troubles, cheating and shocks
5.Shukra yuti Ketu, Kula Yoga, the pride on themselves, their genes, family, prepotent personality, oriented towards the self. They will experience suffering or great abuse and pain in relationships. In certain cases it is spirituality which may take them away from marriage or their freedom (in ordinary lives)
6.Shukra yuti Surya-Jati, strong ego, superiority complex, selfish in relationships, but also dutiful due to marriage and dharma. This combination causes either dharmic and pure but burning marriage, or inability to control senses, leading to loose morals, if Shukra dominates. The whole judgment depends on the combustion.
7.Shukra yuti Guru (Sheela), is a great benefic for Shukra, Guru being uchchanatha. It gives a lot of knowledge and decency, yet Shukra is favoured and art and entertainment industry may be pronounced. Guru has to be strong, but anyway it gives decency and moral worth to Shukra.
8.Shukra yuti Budha Jugupsa, insulting others verbally to justify their own attitude, selfish and childish. Budha makes Shukra neecha, makes it dirty, so marriage has a taint of money and selfish values. Shukra becomes weak in the company of Budha, and there is a pronounced Rajasic nature, particularly if this yuti is in kendra.
Therefore, Shukra is the source of desires and enjoyments, and rules our senses experiencing seeking for pleasures of this samsara. Shukra also rules purity in everything, so the best position for spiritual path is exalted Shukra or Shukra placement in 6th or 12th from Arudha Lagna, where this path is rejected and lost, as seen in the charts of many saintly souls. However, for ordinary people, Shukra is the most important planet and the greatest benefic in this samsara, and it slightest affliction can cause a lot of pain. The mind (Chandra) is exalted in Shukra sign, showing the moha or desire of the mind to experience and enjoy this samsara, creating bondages and various pashas which prevent the soul from the path of moksa. The best placement is Shukra with Ketu or exalted (Ketu rules Mina), and certain positions in Rasi and Navamsa, where a person will take to a serious spiritual path and sadhanas.
See the example chart:

In this chart we have Shukra and Mangal yuti or conjunction forming Ghrina Pasha. Let us see the effects. It give anger, hatred, aversion or disgust. A person has a lot of anger and negative emotions which she did not expressed but kept inside to the extent that her thyroid gland became chronically sick. Mangal rules Lagna and shows her own decisions, as well as 6th bhava, her weakness, jobs etc. .
Study the chart of B.V.Raman to understand how 4th lord Shukra conjoined Mangal and Budha, killed his mother in the very early childhood, However, Mangal is in parivartana with Budha, brining another pasha into the play namely jugupsa. A person spent a lot of time in relationships out of convenience (money motivated), and is quite selfish.

In this chart, Shukra is in own sign, so what shall we do then? We have to take a lord of exaltation sign or uchchanatha. This is Guru, since Shukra is exalted in Mina. So check the pasha. This is one of the best possible way of pasha or bondage, and a person spent his life doing yoga, and trying to leave decently and morally.

In this chart, Shukra is conjoined Budha so Jugupsa pasa is formed, showing insult of others, bad speech, too much enjoyments and money minded. However, this is the chart of Svami Vivekanada, one of the greatest souls of India. Where is the catch?
1.Budha and Shukra, though slow moving planets shall stay for many days in one sign, so many people will have this combination. That is why you cannot say that it will apply for all people. The same case holds true for other conjunctions of Shukra.
2.Obviously, it is Lagna which matters, and bhavas from Lagna.
3.In this case Shukra and Budha rajas are in the 6th from Arudha Lagna and 2nd from Lagna. We consider 2nd from Lagna as maraka, while rajas grahas in the 6th from Arudha Lagna will suffer total destruction, particularly if strong. That is why he considered rajas as maraka for him, and his whole life rajas was destroyed.
Look at one more example

Again, we have shukra and Budha in 2nd bhava, and 12th from Arudha Lagna. What is in the 12th from Arudha Lagna is unwillingly lost. Again this is the chart of Ramana Maharishi, one of the greatest souls of India.
That is why we can conclude that pasha and bandana of Shukra will manifest according to the placement of Shukra. Keep in mind these two charts, where Rajas was totally destroyed, and these people renounced rajas and overcame the bandana and pasha of the mind and this samsara
Om Tat Sat
